Amateur radio events and nets in the Central Susquehanna Valley

On-the-air activity is the heartbeat of the Susquehanna Valley Amateur Radio Club. Our events and nets are where learning happens, friendships form, and radio comes alive—whether you’re checking in from a well-equipped home station, a mobile rig, or a handheld radio.

Weekly nets

SVARC hosts multiple weekly nets designed to support operators at every stage—from brand-new licensees to seasoned hams. Nets are friendly, low-pressure, and focused on participation, learning, and staying connected.

You’ll find nets that emphasize:

  • Local VHF communication

  • HF operating practice and band awareness

  • Digital messaging and Winlink skills

Whether you’re eager to check in or just want to listen and learn, our nets are a great way to stay active and build confidence on the air.

Special events & operating activities

In addition to weekly nets, SVARC regularly participates in special events and hands-on operating activities throughout the year. These events offer opportunities to operate in different environments, experiment with equipment, and work side-by-side with other members.

Activities may include:

  • Field Day operations

  • Parks on the Air (POTA) activations

  • Special event stations

  • Public demonstrations and testing sessions

Some events are large, coordinated efforts; others are informal and member-driven. All are great chances to learn by doing and experience amateur radio in new ways.

Club meetings

Our regular club meetings are open to both members and visitors and are a great way to get to know the club and the hobby.

You don’t need to be licensed, own a radio, or have any prior experience to attend. Meetings typically include brief updates, informal discussion, and occasional presentations, with time to ask questions and talk with members.

There’s no pressure to join—visiting a meeting is simply an easy way to explore amateur radio and see what the local community is like.
